We are beyond excited to share this new title with the world!

Let’s start off by saying that The White Door is different than anything we made so far, not only in style but also in gameplay. But we were ready to make a big change after creating 13 games with almost the same mechanics, interface and style. After combining the new black and white style with the split-screen gameplay, we really wanted to focus on telling a personal story, the story of Robert Hill.

It was a big challenge for us to change the gameplay and puzzle mechanics we used to know, and also trying to create the most narrative based game we made so far. But after a year of hard work we can say that we are extremely proud we achieved this and that we can make something out of the ordinary, while remaining the Rusty Lake touch.

Since our start we have been lucky to have people helping us out. A lot of those people are listed in our new, almost movie worthy credits, so please take a look at them when finishing the game. The credits are accompanied by the beautiful theme song from Victor Butzelaar. His enthusiasm for this project kept us going and we couldn’t have made this story without his emotional, atmospheric and beautiful soundtrack. Bob Rafferty almost became Bob Hill with his amazing voiceovers, his work made the game so much more special. Also a big thanks to all the extra voiceovers, Sara Hill, Iris Muller, David Bowles and a cameo from John & Kimmy! The White Door probably contains the most text of all our games, so a big hands down to all our translators who did a terrific job as always, making this worldwide release possible. Thank you so much everyone – also the people in the special thanks section!

Most of all we want thank you all for your ongoing support! Our community of players is growing bigger and bigger and it is sometimes difficult to satisfy everyone and keep innovating at the same time – but we are happy you allow us to take the time to make something different like The White Door. We have a very exciting year ahead for both Rusty Lake and our new publishing label Second Maze. More of the old is coming and more exciting new projects are still in the pipeline! And if you think you completed The White Door?… This is not it…there is more to solve: stay tuned!

Thank you for your awesome support,

Robin & Maarten

    • Yvonne Versneij says:

I only played The hotel before, and didn’t quite see yet why people are that fond of Rusty lake.
Playing the white door though I have become a big fan. I loved to find out what the puzzles were all about, I loved the drawings in black-white and the view from above. The puzzles were connected to the situation Robert was in. I was completely overwhelmed and so proud this is a Dutch product. I immediately downloaded Cube escape paradox and will continue to follow the games the rusty lake team has made and will make. I appreciated the fact there is a story in the game and not only puzzles to solve. I loved the variety in the puzzles and don’t think they were easy at all, not to me! In short: a great game and very addictive.

  5. Skink says:

    Hi.
Good game, but as for me – compare to your previous games such as Paradox and Paradise, it’s definitely downgrade.
It’s shorter, puzzles are simpler, and a good part of gameplay is dragging things by mouse which is pretty boring. Mysterious and alarming atmosphere is somehow thinner too.
So, as for me, new gameplay and mechanics didn’t do any good. I’d be glad if you abandon this new style and make new games in previous one. Also, I’d rather like to see a new small game every several months than a big one once a year.
Sorry for unpleasant words, but I had to say that. Despite I didn’t like this particular game much, you are still the best!

    • Ekal Ytsur says:

I must say Skink is absolutely right in my opinion. Way to easy. Too linear. No grotesque creatures.
It could have been an ingame minigame.
Absolutely trying to make things different, but the Rusty lake games already were unique, special and addicting to play. Please return to the old fashion style.

    • AF says:

Totally agree.. I hope they get back to the Paradox style

    • audrey says:

I agree, I appreciate the work and I did enjoy playing very much, but I prefer the other style

  6. Martin says:

Has anyone googled the phone number in the game? 31202443854, it leads to a White Door website with a countdown, 13 days from now. Haven’t seen anybody mentioning it, but I think it might be counting down to another game announcement or something.

  7. Marco Vanoni says:

What happens if i call the number that shows up on the tv in day 3 doing the achievement??

  8. Angry man says:

I can’t download it and I’m really angry for it …..

  9. William says:

Finished the game in about 3 hours, with all the stars. So fun! I wish it was a little longer though, and maybe a bit more difficult.

  10. Klaudia says:

The game is amazing!! Love it and wait for more 😀

  11. Tiffany says:

Sorry guys FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK.

  12. Arturo says:

Quisiera saber si el juego está disponible en una versión en español.

  13. Pydalao says:

I was born on July 6th, the same as Robert Hill!

  14. Lee says:

    It’s a story, a sad story.

  15. RAEscape says:

And When For the PC ???!!!

  16. Mary says:

The white door is very amazing!?
I played it yesterday. I find achievements of day 1,2,3,4,7 and all dreams except the last dream!?
There was harvey, but I don’t know what to do!?
This is the best story I know and the best game I played!
THANK YOU SO MUCH,RUSTY LAKE AND THE SECOND MAZE!!!
    ????????

  17. Paula says:

    I love the game.
To bad I cannot play it left handed.
I keep getting my hand in front of the screen.

  18. Edgar says:

I just finished the whole game and found out some of the hidden secrets(but I’m sure I didn’t find them all).I wonder if there will be a few more surprises for us,like updates or something?Just can’t wait to discover the whole story between these people.

  19. Monkey says:

    Best birthday gift, ever!

  20. Yaku says:

As a lot of games of your team, this is a masterpiece. I’m a huge fan of the atmosphere, the aeshetics of the landscapes, the melancholia of the story and scenes. The gameplay is also very innovative and enjoyable. Even if it wasn’t as difficult as the others, the whole scenario and game design is perfect. I played it with my bf, who didn’t know Rusty Lake before and he fell in love with the game. Thank you for your work and imagination. Your games really have a soul.

  21. Paul.Zhang says:

Mr.Harvey, I finish the game and secret ending ,I get a secret code and I don’t what it do for

  22. David Rainone says:

Definitely a very interesting premise. I just finished my first playthrough (only got one star and started the secret level but couldnt figure it out so im taking a break) the gameplay was definitely different and i cant tell if thats a good or bad thing yet. It was very interesting and enjoyable though and i cant wait to try to figure out all the secrets!

  23. Jick_911 says:

    Hello!
Fans in mainland China can’t download the white door! Local laws don’t allow them to use Google, twitter and other foreign services, please help us!

  24. Martin says:

The game was fine, but pretty repetitive and very short. Finished it in a couple of sittings and unlike other rusty lake games nothing was even slightly difficult.

I get that some of the challenge is in replaying to get achievements, but with no real clue about what I’m trying to achieve I don’t know where to begin so probably won’t bother. Replaying Hotel was great fun to get all the meals completed, this just feels like a chore.

I’d been really looking forward to it, but just pretty disappointed now.

  25. May says:

This is such a huge downgrade compared to the previous game. Rusty lake is one of my all time favorite game, especially roots, but this is definitely not rusty lake worthy. The ambiance is boring, the gameplay is quite horrible and the game itself is way too easy. I am so disappointed! What people love the most about rusty lake is that horror disturbing ambiance and I definitely can’t find it here. Too bad.

  26. Ring says:

I was late for 4 days.
Rusty Lake is a BRILLIANT inperpetual.

  27. Cat says:

Well, I do understand the more negative criticism of the game, and they have a point. But you guys are wonderful artists, and if this is part of your journey into a new and more challenging style of game design, I’ll be the first in line to support you. If you ever do any fundraising, I’ll be there as I’ve been in the past. Just please keep making things regardless. It is always appreciated.

  28. Hans says:

Interesting user interface and story telling, but – for me – disappointing as a game. But because of former Rusty Lakes games my expectations were high, of course.
